Cal Cup Distaff Draws Stakes Winners

ARCADIA, Calif. (Oct. 13, 2004) – Seven stakes winners are included in the field of 12 entered in Saturday’s $150,000 John Deere California Cup Distaff at Oak Tree at Santa Anita.

Icantgoforthat is by In Excess, out of the Copelan mare Texinadress, was bred by Michael Pegram and is owned by Andy Broberg and Palmer Knapp. She is a three-time stakes winner of seven races and $472,484. She was fourth in this race last year and is coming off a third in the Sept. 17 Pio Pico.

Free China is by Free House, out of the Bolger mare Bolchina, and was bred by owners Chuck Winner and Neil Papiano. She has two wins in four starts and is making her stakes debut.

Market Garden is by Bold Badgett, out of the He’s Our Native mare Margaret’s Native, was bred by S L U Inc. and is owned by Sid and Jenny Craig. She has six wins in 30 starts and $321,152 in earnings. She is coming off a four-length win in the Sept. 17 Pio Pico.

Bold Roberta is by Bold Badgett, out of the Prospectors Gamble mare Roberta Ullmann, and was bred by owner S L U Inc. She has six wins and $445,935 in earnings. She was second in this race last year after winning a pair of stakes at Fairplex Park and most recently was seventh in the Las Madrinas.

Alphabet Kisses is by Alphabet Soup, out of the Saratoga Six mare Kiss for Six, and was bred by owner Harris Farms. She has three wins in six starts and $144,150 in earnings. She most recently was third in the Sept. 4 Torrey Pines.

Jazz Ya is by Jambalaya Jazz, out of the Native Royalty mare Ruffmeup, and was bred by owners Jim Schlagel and Dr. Joseph Sciarra. She has two wins in nine starts and was fifth in the Sept. 5 Solana Beach.

Lady General is by General Meeting, out of the Lear Fan mare Leasears, was bred by Tigertail Ranch and is owned by Jarrell Scott and Wellman. She broke her maiden in her 10th try and was third in the Daisycutter Handicap.

Jetinto Houston is by Houston, out of the Kennedy Road mare Jetinwith Kennedy, was bred by Sledge Stable and is owned by Team Valor. She has four wins and $279,131 in earnings and is coming off a four-length win in the Sept. 26 C.H. Russell Handicap.

Western Hemisphere is by General Meeting, out of the Smarten mare Excellent Lady, was bred by John and Betty Mabee and is owned by Golden Eagle Farm. The full brother to champion General Challenge has three wins, $244,465 in earnings and is coming off a sixth in the Del Mar Oaks after winning the Fleet Treat Stakes.

The Yellow Sheet is by Benchmark, out of the Moscow Ballet mare Yellow Corn, and was bred by owner Toby Turrell. She won the Warren Thoroughbred Allowance Stakes, has $120,714 in earnings and most recently was fifth in a Sept. 3 optional claimer.

Our Mango is by Bold Badgett, out of the Caucasus mare Woodlynn, was bred by S L U Inc. and is owned by Para Dice Acres. She has four wins in 27 starts and $155,718 in earnings. She won the Aug. 9 E. Destruel Handicap and most recently was fifth in the Sept. 4 Autumn Leaves.
Cyber Slew is by Siberian Summer, out of the Slew o’Gold mare Truly Golden, was bred by Kevin Carey and is owned by Rancho Ballena. She has five wins in 17 starts and $269,862 in earnings. She is looking for her first stakes win and most recently was sixth in the Sept. 5 Solana Beach.
