Tucked Away Likes Cal

ARCADIA, Calif. (Oct. 13, 2004) –
Tucked Away will be the likely favorite in Saturday’s $100,000 TVG California
Cup Distance Handicap for fillies and mares at 1 ¼ miles on the Santa Anita turf
course.
Test the Waters is by Chequer, out of
the Irish River mare Tilltheriverrunsdry, was bred by Jim Vreeland and is owned
by Johon Seger and Joseph Thomas. She has three wins in seven starts, $142,478
in earnings and has won her last two starts.
Shalini is by Urgent Request, out of
the Falstaff mare Code It Nikki, was bred by Briere Thoroughbreds and is owned
by James and Richard Briere. She was fifth in this race last year and most
recently was third in the Aug. 11 Osunitas Handicap. She has five wins in 24
starts with $342,755 in earnings. She was fifth in the race last year, was
second by a nose in 2002 and was fifth in the Cal Cup Juvenile Fillies in 2001.
Scrofa is by Unusual Heat, out of the
Flying Victor mare Maestra Mia, was bred by Costas Constantinou and is owned by
Aldabbagh and STD Racing. She has three wins in 13 races with $91,100 in
earnings. She was claimed for $62,500 two races back.
Ran for the Dough is by Bertrando, out
of the Deputy Minister mare Brief Interlude, was bred by Marty and Pam Wygod and
is owned by Stable, Bienstock and Winner. She has three wins in 13 starts and
$110,930 in earnings. She is coming off a pair of seconds in optional claimers.
Drought Breaker is by Steinlen, out of
the Cee’s Tizzy mare Water Trade, was bred by Ben Rochelle and was claimed for
$40,000 by Weatherwatch Farm and Roddy Valente three races back. She brings a
three-race win streak into this race in nine starts with $83,240 in earnings.
Tucked Away is by Unusual Heat, out of
the Be a Native mare Chemolo, was bred by Madeline Auerbach and is owned by Nico
Nierenberg. She has four wins in 20 starts and $321,288 in earnings. Her most
recent race was a win in the Sept. 5 Solana Beach Handicap. She was seventh in
last year’s Cal Cup Distaff.
