Cal Cup XIII Contenders

Are you up to the Challenge?
On November 2, California Cup XIII will be held at the Oak Tree meeting at Santa Anita Race Course. The California Thoroughbred Breeders Association and the Oak Tree Racing Association are giving you the opportunity to test your handicapping skills against players from across the globe in the 2002 California Cup Fantasy Challenge.

What do you win?
Besides the glory of having the winning stable, the Oak Tree Racing Association and the California Thoroughbred Breeders Association have provided prizes for the top 10 finishers in the Cal Cup Fantasy Challenge. First prize will be a Santa Anita Bomber Jacket. Finishers two through ten will receive valuable merchandise from the Oak Tree Racing Association and the California Thoroughbred Breeders Association. Additionally, the names of the top ten stables will appear in the December issue of the California Thoroughbred.

How do you play?
You are allowed to choose a Fantasy Stable of eight California-breds. Each stable's objective is to score as many points as possible. Points will be allotted to horses finishing in the top three positions in each of the eight Cal Cup Stakes races.

We have provided the early bird nominations for each of the eight divisional events. Although the early bird nominations are a great resource, you are not limited to those choices because horses may be nominated to Cal Cup up until Oct. 20.

When you sign up for the Fantasy Challenge, your email will be saved with your stable name and password. During the days leading up to Cal Cup, you will receive handicapping information via email to help with your stable selection. After the entries are drawn on Oct. 30 you will be sent an email with the entries and be able to select your stable.

How is the challenge scored?
Each of the eight stakes races Cal Cup Day are worth three points to the winner, two points for the runner-up, and a single point for third. The California Cup Classic will be worth twice as many points for each spot. (six, four and two) As a tiebreaker, you will be asked to estimate the attendance for Cal Cup XIII.
