Overall, 42 head sold on the sales first night for gross sales of $1,744,000accounting for an average of $41,524a 40 percent increase in average compared to last years numbers. The median price was $27,000, and 12 head did not sell.
"Were very pleased with the results of the first night," said CTBA General Manager Doug Burge. "Bolstered by the states lucrative incentive program and restricted purses, the demand for Cal-breds continues to run high."
As for the sale topper, Headley called her the star of the sale.
"She has power and elegance," he said. "She is as perfect as you can get a racehorse. We were prepared to go to any price to get her."
Consigned by Debbie Sands, agent, the filly is Whens second foal.
Second-highest price of the evening at $120,000 was a Cal-bred colt by High Brite out of the multiple stakes-winning mare Angi Go. Trainer Sean McCarthy, as agent for Six Dueces Stable, signed the ticket. Yearsley Bloodstock as agent consigned the colt.
David and Holly Wilson paid $117,000 for a Cal-bred filly by Memo (Chi)Rio Tejo, by Tsunami Slew, consigned by Berkey Bloodstock Services Inc.
