Cal-bred Five Among Triple Play Starters

SAN MATEO, Calif. (May 7, 2008) -- Five California-breds are among the entries in Saturday’s $50,000 Triple Play Starter Stakes at 1 ¼ miles at Bay Meadows.

Bonfire Burt is by Candi’s Gold, out of the Eager Eagle mare Eager Dusty, was bred by Burton and Auby Blackwell, was foaled at Blooming Hills, is owned by Hin Mak and trained by John Buc. He has three wins in 25 starts, earnings of $36,483 and is coming off a fourth in an Apr. 13 starter’s allowance.

Afternoon Express is by Afternoon Deelites, out of the Skywalker mare Sky Express, was bred by Budget Stables, is owned by Kjell Qvale and trained by Roger Hansen. He has six wins in 35 starts, earnings of $103,353 and is coming off a third in an Apr. 13 starter’s allowance.

Trato is by Lit de Justice, out of the Pirate’s Bounty mare Calm Seas, was bred by Magali Ventures, foaled at Magali Farms, is owned by Owners Stable, John Cavalli, Armando Lage and Manuel Luga and trained by Lage. The $13,000 Northern California Yearling Sale graduate has two wins in 10 starts, earnings of $25,310 and is coming off a fifth in an Apr. 13 starter’s allowance.

Sidepocket Cat is by Royal Cat, out of the Exclusive Ribot mare On the Snap, was bred by Tony Sardo, was foaled at Old English Rancho, is owned by Robert Blau, Bert Dias, Harry Pellman and Peter Anderson and trained by Steven Miyadi. He has four wins in 22 starts, earnings of $64,420 and is coming off an Apr. 13 starter’s allowance win.

Iron Duke is by Iron Cat, out of the Alysheba mare Alygria, was bred by Dale Pyle Jr. and David and Barbara Meyers, was foaled at Harris Farms, is owned by Fred Desimore and Greg Geiser and trained by mark Rheinford. He has four wins in 13 starts, earnings of $84,080 and is coming off an eighth in an Apr. 13 starter’s allowance.
