Sensational Cal-breds in
Sensational Star
ARCADIA, Calif. (Mar. 31, 2008) –
Millionaire McCann’s Mojave, who won the race in 2004, leads a field of
nine California-breds in Friday’s $125,000 Sensational Star Handicap at
about 6 ½ furlongs on the Santa Anita hillside turf course.
McCann’s Mojave is by Memo, out of
the Nordic Prince mare Joni U. Bar, was bred by Nikki Hunt and owner
Mike Willman. He has 11 wins in 32 starts, earnings of $1,375,855 and is
coming off a second in the Feb. 18 Presidents Day Mile. He won this race
four years ago.
Lucky J. H. is by Cee’s Tizzy, out
of the A.P. Indy mare Lucky C. H., was bred by, foaled at and owned by
Harris Farms. He has six wins in 16 starts, earnings of $489,455 and is
coming off a third in the Mar. 16 Crystal Water.
Medzendeekron is by Unusual Heat,
out of the Cozzene mare Fleet Sparrow, was bred by Abrams/Nakkashian/Roberts
and was foaled at Old English Rancho. He has three wins in 11 starts,
earnings of $151,252 and is coming off a Mar. 1 optional claimer win.
Dakota Padre is by Game Plan, out
of the His Majesty mare Lisbona, was bred by Royal Match Stud and
Rusling Oaks and is owned by Curt and Lila Lanning. The $27,000 Barretts
purchase has three wins in 15 starts, earnings of $147,760 and is coming
off a Feb. 18 allowance win.
Epic Power is by Epic Honor, out of
the Eighty Below Zero mare Petite n Powerful, was bred by Richard
Meister, was foaled at Blooming Hills and is owned by La Canada Stables.
He has 12 wins in 55 starts, earnings of $657,435 and is coming off a
fourth in the Mar. 16 Crystal Water. He was fifth in this race last
year.
Cheroot is by Smokester, out of the
Far North mare Triple Connection, was bred by owner Charlotte Wrather
and foaled at Cottonwood Ranch. He has seven wins in 28 starts, earnings
of $494,501 and is coming off a seventh in the Mar. 16 Crystal Water.
Bestdressed is by Lit de Justice,
out of the Black Tie Affair mare Undressed, was bred by Paul Boghossian,
was foaled at Magali Farms and is owned by Triple B Farms. He has three
wins in 17 starts, earnings of $114,240 and is coming off a sixth in the
Mar. 16 Crystal Water.
Unusual Suspect is by Unusual Heat,
out of the Crested Wave mare Penpont, was bred by David Abrams, was
foaled at Old English Rancho and is owned by Barry, David and Dyan
Abrams. He has six wins in 21 starts, earnings of $471,177 and is coming
off a fifth in the Dec. 31 Impressive Luck.
High Standards is by High Brite,
out of the Torsion mare Tomato Paste, was bred by, foaled at and owned
by Harris Farms. He has five wins in 13 starts, earnings of $224,197 and
is coming off a 10th in the Jan. 26 Sunshine Millions Sprint.
