Bonfante Seeks Third Cal Turf

SAN MATEO, Calif. (Mar. 31, 2008) –
Bonfante goes for a three-peat as the high weight in Saturday’s $100,000
California Turf Sprint Championship Handicap for California-breds at Bay
Meadows.
Bonfante is by Fruition, out of the
Mountain Cat mare Tahoma Cat, was bred by owners Tenbrink and Frankfurt
and was foaled at Creston Farm. He has 11 wins in 30 starts, earnings of
$636,121 and is coming off a win in the Mar. 15 Bay Meadows Sprint
Handicap. He won the race the last two years after finishing second in
2005.
Midnight Cabinet is by Mr. Greeley,
out of the Olympio mare Maganda, was bred by Asistio and Romulo Stables,
was foaled at Golden Eagle Farm and is owned by El Presidio Farms. He
has three wins in 10 starts, earnings of $30,040 and is coming off a
sixth when claimed for $10,000 on Feb. 23.
Zoning In is by Bertrando, out of
the Slew’s Royalty mare Miss Inn Zone, was bred by Marty and Pam Wygod,
was foaled at River Edge Farm and is owned by Curt and Lila Lanning. The
$17,000 Barretts purchase has four wins in 19 starts, earnings of
$279,532 and is coming off a fifth in the Feb. 17 Daytona.
Tribesman is by Tribal Rule, out of
the Bertrando mare Exquisite Love, was bred by owner Kjell Qvale and was
foaled at River Edge Farm. He has six wins in 11 starts, earnings of
$229,281 and is coming off a fourth in the Mar. 15 Bay Meadows Sprint
Handicap.
Vaderator is by Cee’s Tizzy, out of
the Skywalker mare Vaderette, was bred by owners Harris Farms and Sheila
Williams and foaled at Harris Farms. He has four wins in 11 starts,
earnings of $157,200 and is coming off a third in a Feb. 21 allowance.
He was third in this race last year.
Restless Youth is by Helmsman, out
of the Restless Con mare Restless Appeal, was bred by Robert and Beverly
Lewis, was foaled at Pegasus Ranch and is owned by Kjell Qvale. The
$13,000 Barretts purchase has three wins in 13 starts, earnings of
$117,730 and is coming off a fourth in a Feb. 7 optional claimer.
Acquire the Fire is by Globalize,
out of the Master Derby mare Lottie, was bred by Ron and Cheryl Bigon,
foaled at Bigon Ranch and is owned by AJM Racing. The $33,000 purchase
at the Northern California Yearling Sale has five wins in 11 starts,
earnings of $136,581 and is coming off three consecutive wins.
Areyoutalkintome is by Smokester,
out of the Storm Bird mare Andrea Gail, was bred by John Toffan and
Trudy McCaffery, was foaled at Cardiff Stud Farm and is owned by Sam
Rivinius. The $10,000 Barretts purchase has 10 wins in 51 starts,
earnings of $985,417 and is coming off a fourth in the Nov. 3 California
Cup Sprint. He was fourth in this race in 2005.
Indian Ashton is by Tribal Rule,
out of the Bertrando mare Justanotherblonde, was bred by Marty and Pam
Wygod, foaled at River Edge Farm and is owned by O’Laughlin, Sharma and
Ward. The $105,000 Barretts purchase has four wins in eight starts,
earnings of $158,260 and is coming off consecutive optional claimer
wins.
