Somethinaboutlaura, a millionaire
and winner of back-to-back runnings of the Grade 2 A Gleam Invitational
Handicap, has been retired from racing, according to a press release.
In her last start, the 6-year-old
mare finished second to Bai and Bai after stumbling at the start of the
Foster City Handicap at Bay Meadows on March 1. Somethinaboutlaura had
won the race in 2007.
She retires with a reputation for
versatility, having won 18 races - 14 of them stakes - from 34 starts
over distances from 5 1/2 furlongs to 1 1/16 miles and on dirt, turf,
and synthetic surfaces.
Somethinaboutlaura also finished
second or third in nine stakes, including a third in this year's Grade 1
Santa Maria Handicap. She earned $1,129,365 and raced for owners Jerry
Hollendorfer - who also trained her - and Charles D. Miller, John Sikura,
and George Todaro.
Somethinaboutlaura, a
California-bred daughter of Dance Floor, will be bred to Stormy
Atlantic.
Somethinaboutlaura was bred by
Lilley Ranch from the It's Freezing mare Crystals of Ice.
