Cal-bred Tops October Yearling Sale

POMONA, Calif. (Oct. 3, 2006) – A California-bred daughter of Cape Town, a full sister to stakes winner Race for Glory, sold for $240,000 to top Tuesday’s 2006 California’s October Yearling Sale, presented by Barretts and the California Thoroughbred Breeders Association.

The sale-topper was bred by Shields Thoroughbreds, consigned by Havens Bloodstock and was purchased by John Brocklebank. The highest-priced colt at the sale was a Cal-bred son of Yonaguska, bred by Terry Lovingier, consigned by Lov Acres and purchased by Peter Pappas.

Summarizing the sale, 171 yearlings sold for $4,336,900 and an average of $25,362, on par with the average from last year’s inaugural sale of $25,311. Six sales were for $100,000 or more.
