NorCal Yearling Sale Set for Tuesday PLEASANTON, Calif. (Aug. 10, 2006) – The 2006 Northern California Yearling Sale, conducted by California Thoroughbred Breeders Association Sales, will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Alameda County Fairgrounds. A total of 246 yearlings have been cataloged for the sale. Horses will start arriving for the sale Friday and are required to be on the grounds and available for inspection by noon Saturday. Streaming video of the entire sale will be available live on www.ctba.com. This will be the third year of the sale in its current form. Among the top runners from the previous two sales are Super Image, winner of last week’s Cavonnier Juvenile Stakes at Santa Rosa; Sharoana, winner of this year’s Nevin Alameda County Futurity; and Bai and Bai, winner of last year’s California Cup Juvenile Fillies. Among the stallions represented in the sale are Benchmark, Bertrando, Formal Gold, High Brite, In Excess, Lit de Justice, Skimming, Swiss Yodeler, Tribal Rule and Unusual Heat. The 2005 Northern California Yearling Sale grossed $1,243,500 with 164 individuals sold and 63 bought back. The average was $7,582 and the median was $4,000. The 2004 sale, the first conducted in the region by the CTBA in more than a decade, averaged $6,874 with a median of $4,350. Last year’s sale-topper was a colt by Bertrando, out of the Storm Cat mare Sweet Paradise, consigned by River Edge Farm, Agent, and purchased for $50,000 by Super Horse Inc. The 2004 sale-topper was a colt by Royal Cat, out of the stakes-winning Wajima mare Tiza, that sold for $47,000 to Jeff Bonde.
