Quality Catalog for October Yearling Sale

POMONA, Calif. (Sept. 27, 2005) --In its first year, the upcoming California’s October Yearling Sale reflects the quality and depth of the state’s thoroughbred breeding program.

The sale is the result of a historic alliance between the California Thoroughbred Breeders’ Association and Barretts, and is designed to provide a centralized yearling marketplace for California breeders through higher prices and better sales quality.

The sale will be held Tuesday, Oct. 4, at the Hinds Pavilion at Fairplex Park, beginning at 11 a.m.

There are 324 yearlings catalogued and Black Type is plentiful. Thirty four of the available yearlings are out of stakes-winning dams and 55 have stakes-winning siblings.

Three of the yearlings are double-qualifiers, being out of a stakes-winning mare and a sibling to a stakes winner.

Hip 33, a Kentucky-bred filly by Stormin Fever, is out of the stakes-winning Dizieland Band mare Box Office Gold and is a half-sister to Basic Concern, a stakes winner of $125,243.

Hip 42, a California-bred colt by Out of Place, is out of multiple stakes winner Buffel and is a half-brother to One Eyed Jocker, a multiple stakes winner of $513,360 and Only in Philly, a stakes winner of $83,180.

Hip 105, a Cal-bred filly by Bertrando, is out of the multiple stakes winner Glass Ceiling and is a half-sister to Delmonico Cat, a multiple stakes winner of $273,804.
