Sire Power at NorCal Yearling Sale

PLEASANTON, Calif. (Sept. 27, 2004) – Fourteen of the top 20 California sires based on progeny earnings are represented at the Northern California Yearling Sale, to be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Alameda County Fairgrounds.

They include offspring of In Excess, Siberian Summer, Smokester and High Brite, all listed in the top 5 of California-based sires, according to figures compiled by Bloodstock Research Information Services.

Also represented are leading California freshman sires Old Topper and Muqtarib. Hip 16 is a filly by Old Topper, out of the Lear Fan mare Highly Esteemed, and consigned by Green Acre Stables. Hip 63 is a colt by Muqtarib, out of the Timeless Moment mare Nichoels Baby, dam of the stakes-placed La Fontaine, consigned by Hi 5 Ranch.

Two yearlings in the sale are by Swiss Yodeler, the top juvenile sire and top third-crop sire in the state. They are Hip 111, a colt out of the Pirate’s Bounty mare Soft Bounty and a full brother to stakes winner Swiss Bounty; and Hip 136, a filly out of the Man From Eldorado mare Wilma Mac.

Free House, Event of the Year, Mud Route and Perfect Mandate – the top four rated second-crop sires – are each represented by one yearling in the sale. In addition to Swiss Yodeler, Benchmark and Western Fame – the second- and third-rated third-crop sires – also are represented.
