Del Mar Yearling Sale Set for Monday

DEL MAR, Calif. (Aug 12, 2004) – The Del Mar Yearling Sale, with a more select catalog representing top local and national stallions, will be held Monday, Aug. 16, at 7 p.m. in the paddock at the Del Mar Race Track.

A total of 122 individuals are catalogued for the sale, which returns to the track for the first time since 1995. Yearlings will be stabled in the adjacent Del Mar Arena and will be available for viewing Saturday August 14, Sunday August 15, and Monday August 16, prior to the Sale.

Prominent local sires Bertrando and In Excess (Ire) have the best representation at the sale with 11 yearlings each. They are followed by Cee’s Tizzy with seven and Smokester with five. Beau Genius, Benchmark, General Meeting and Valid Wager each have four yearlings catalogued.

Also catalogued are the offspring of such exciting Kentucky stallions as Elusive Quality, Cozzene, Smart Strike, Distorted Humor, Malibu Moon, Royal Academy, Honour and Glory, Devil His Due, Cryptoclearance and Awesome Again, many of whom are registered Cal-breds. There are also yearlings by local freshman sires Malek (Chi) and Muqtarib, who already have stakes horses in their first crop, as well as promising Kentucky freshman sire More Than Ready.
