Del Mar Yearling Sale Loaded
with Siblings of Stakes Winners
DEL MAR, Calif. (July 24, 2004) --
There’ll be plenty of familiar breeding lines among the 122 youngsters
up for auction at the Del Mar Yearling Sale the night of Monday, Aug.
16. Twenty-two of the yearlings on the block are either full or
half-siblings to stakes-winners.
Three of those 22 mares whose
siblings are in the sale were themselves stakes-winners -- Health Farm,
I’m Out and Icy Morn.
Health Farm is the dam of the
Bertrando colt who will carry Hip No. 15 into the sales ring. A daughter
of double classic winner Pleasant Colony, Health Farm won a listed
stakes in Canada and is the dam of Social Director, by Deputy Minister,
who captured a stakes at Woodbine.
I’m Out is the dam of Hip 21, a
colt by Clever Trick, which makes him a full-brother to Rills, winner of
a listed stakes at Laurel and also graded stakes-placed. On the track,
I’m Out, by Lord Gaylord, won the Margate Handicap at Atlantic City.
Icy Morn, whose colt by the late
Free House is Hip 22 at the sale, counted stakes scores at six tracks,
including Arlington Park, Oaklawn Park and Sam Houston Park, among her
20 victories in 39 career starts. Crowned Jewel was her sire. Icy Lane,
her filly by Devon Lane, was a stakes-winner at Sunland Park.
A full-sister to 2004 Santa Anita
Oaks (grade I) winner Silent Sighs and a half-sister to 2003 grade I
Santa Anita Derby champion Buddy Gil are on this list, as is a
half-brother to the three stakes-winning offspring of Rio Tejo,
California’s 2003/2004 Broodmare of the Year.
