Don'tsellmeshort Looks for Dash
Upset
ARCADIA, Calif. (Jan. 19, 2004) --
Multiple stakes winner Don'tsellmeshort leads a six-horse California-bred
contingent Saturday in the $250,000 NATC Dash for 3-year-olds in Sunshine
Millions II at Santa Anita.
Don'tsellmeshort is coming off a
third stakes win in the Dec. 26 California Breeders Champion Stakes. The
$75,000 Barretts purchase also won the Barretts Juvenile and Graduation
Stakes and has finished off the board only once in eight starts. He has
career earnings of $294,395, nearly four times as much as the next highest
earner in the race.
Pioneerman is by Pioneering, out of
the Private Account mare Paper Money, and was bred by Earle McNeil and
Haras El Palenque. His only win was a 4 1/2-furlong race May 7 and he is
looking for his first stakes placing in a fourth try. Most recently he was
sixth in the Dec. 29 Hill Rise on turf.
Race for Glory is by Cape Town, out
of the Slew's Royalty mare Charming Gal, and was bred by Shields
Thoroughbreds. The $600,000 Keeneland purchase won the Cavonnier Stakes
for Cal-breds Oct. 1, but has finished ninth in his last two starts, the
Breeders Cup Juvenile and the California Breeders' Champion Stakes.
Badgett's Mandate is by Perfect
Mandate, out of the Bold Badgett mare Barroness V Ullmann, and was bred by
S L U Inc. He has one win but three seconds in stakes race, the most
recent being the Dec. 26 California Breeders' Champion Stakes. His career
earnings are $78,220.
Cheiron is by Maria's Mon, out of
the Wild Again mare Fortunee, and was bred by The Thoroughbred Corp. He
broke his maiden last time out Jan. 10, his fifth career start.
Score High is by Score Quick, out
of the Skywalker mare Skyanna, and was bred by Bill Thomas. He broke his
maiden for $40,000 and has not raced since finishing fourth in a $62,500
claimer Nov. 19.
The toughest Florida competition
should come from trainer Bobby Frankel's Ice Wynnd Fire, ridden by Jerry
Bailey.
