ARCADIA, Calif. (Nov. 8, 2003) -- Favored Blind Ambition circled the field crossing the main track and burst clear at mid-stretch to win Saturday's $150,000 California Cup John Deere Distaff at Oak Tree at Santa Anita by two lengths in stakes-record time.

Blind Ambition is a lightly raced 5-year-old daughter of Political Ambition, out of the Relaunch mare Reclass, and was bred by co-owner Harris Farms, who also co-bred Saturday's Cal Cup Distance winner Moscow Burning. Harris Farms bred or co-bred past Cal Cup winners Unlimited Value, Super High, Teresa Mc, As We Know It and Reality Changes.

This was Blind Ambition's first race since July 3, her first stakes win and fourth win in eight starts, raising her career earnings to $263,580. She has never finished worse than second and in her only other stakes start, she finished second by a neck to Shalini in the Fran's Valentine.

Blind Ambition is owned by Harris Farms and Bowers-Lepore, trained by Marty Jones and was ridden by Julie Krone, her second win on the card.

The 2-1 favorite, she ran the distance of about 6 1/2 furlongs on turf in 1:12.27, breaking the stakes record of 1:12.55 set by Bel's Starlet in 1991.

Roberta's Mango was second and Sweetcakesanshakes was third. Grant Marty a Wish, who led early, was pulled up past the eighth pole and vanned off.
