ARCADIA, Calif. (Nov. 8, 2003) --
Coconut Mango, third in the race a year ago and claimed for $32,000 three
races back, won Saturday's $50,000 California Cup William T. Pascoe
Starter Sprint at Oak Tree at Santa Anita.
The 4-year-old son of Bold Badgett
is out of the He's Our Native mare Icy Escapade and was bred by S L U Inc.
He ran the six furlongs in 1:09.34 and was three lengths in front when he
leaped over the mirror image at the wire, but made it back to the winner's
circle.
Coconut Mango, off as the fourth
choice at 5-1, won for the third time in 18 starts and raised his career
earnings to $131,868. He is owned by Barker Crevier Kradjian Et Al,
trained by Mike Marlow and was ridden by Julie Krone. Raise Expectations
was second and Love That Lion was third.
