Speed Duel in Starter Sprint
ARCADIA, Calif. (Nov. 5, 2003) –
Forward March, sporting from his most recent race the only triple-digit
Beyer Speed Figure in the cast, will have to catch Love That Lion to win
Saturday’s $50,000 William T. Pascoe III California Cup Starter Sprint
Handicap at Santa Anita.
Forward March is by Kleven, out of
the Stanstead mare Stand Forward, and was bred by Ernest Auerbach and Max
Ratner. He has three wins in his last five races and a nose loss to Highly
Tempting Sept. 10.
Love That Lion is by Last Lion, out
of the Slew the Bride mare Loveinthefastlane, and was bred by Roberta
Petersen. He has been claimed six times in his last 11 races and has
finished no worse than second in any of his last six races. The $4,500
Barretts purchase has 10 wins and $253,434 in earnings.
Whatever Jim is by Last Lion, out
of the Slew the Bride mare Miss Rosye Slew, and was bred by James and
Linda Elder. He is a maiden who has not finished better than third in
eight races.
Show Me The Moolah is by Cutlass
Reality, out of the Carl County mare Sparkle Plenty To, and was bred by
Carol Lingenfelter & Harris Farms. He was claimed for $12,500 out of his
most recent race, a second-place finish Oct. 19.
Coconut Mango is by Bold Badgett,
out of the He’s Our Native mare Ice Escapade, and was bred by S L U Inc.
He was third in this race last year and is coming off a pair of seconds.
Rock Island Salami is by In Excess,
out of the Saros mare Filaree, and was bred by Michael Pegram. He broke
his maiden in his third race for $25,000.
Raise Expectations is by Mutakddim,
out of the Raise a Native mare Raise an Heiress, and was bred by Harris
Farms. He was claimed in his fourth win two races back for $25,000.
