Continental Red Opposes Khaled

-- California-bred horse of the year Continental Red returns from a brief
freshening Saturday to lead a field of nine in the $150,000 TVG Khaled
Stakes on the Gold Rush card at Hollywood Park.
Continental Red has only one win in
the last 13 months, but it came in the $275,000 NTRA Great State
Challenge. He earned $540,000 last year, and now has $844,853 in career
winnings. He is by Flying Continental, out of the Glaros mare Sharp
Looking Lady, and was bred by Mr. and Mrs. Wes Fitzpatrick.
Bourbon County is by Smokester, out
of the Turkoman mare Turkish Gipsy, and was bred by Bobby Ng and Cardiff
Farm Management. He has two wins in his last three starts.
Lily's Lad is by Bertrando, out of
the Lyphard mare Pharapache, and was bred by Marshall Naify. This is only
his second start since finishing seventh in last year's Khaled Stakes. He
has four career wins and $191,213 in earnings.
Native Desert is the biggest winner
on the Gold Rush card and the defending champ of this race. He is by
Desert Classic, out of the Princely Native mare Miss C. Native, and was
bred by Fred Watarida. He has 21 wins in 67 starts and $1,758,357 in
career earnings.
Prized Friend is by River Special,
out of the Miswaki mare Laura's Friend, and was bred by Mr. and Mrs. John
Mabee. He strung four consecutive wins last year and is coming off a
second in a Mar. 19 optional claimer. He has six wins and $171,390 in
earnings.
Sea to See is by Al Mamoon, out of
the Desert Wine mare Sea Caylee Run, and was bred by Mr. and Mrs. Bart
Heller. The former stakes winner is looking for his first win since 2001
and was claimed two races back for $62,500. He has $244,036 in earnings.
Spinelessjellyfish is by Skywalker,
out of the Desert Wine mare Silky Sand Sammy, and was bred by Cardiff Farm
Management. He has 10 wins in 37 starts with $816,283 in earnings. He is a
two-time winner of the Khaled and was fourth last year.
Turkish Prize is by Prized, out of
the Turkoman mare Turkish Gipsy, and was bred by Bobby Ng and Cardiff Farm
Management. He won last year's California Cup Mile, one of 11 wins in 43
starts, with $609,055 in earnings. He was claimed out of a Mar. 23 race
for $50,000, finishing third.
Yougottawanna is by Candi's Gold,
out of the Midway Circle mare Chapel's Sister, and was bred by Halo Farms.
He is a triple stakes winner making only his second start after a year
layoff. He has four career wins and $316,085 in earnings.
