Shalini, Castling in Fran's Valentine

INGLEWOOD, Calif. (Apr. 23, 2003) -- Stakes winners Shalini and Castling head a field of nine entered in Saturday's $150,000 Fran's Valentine Stakes for older fillies and mares at 1 1/16 miles on the Hollywood Park turf course.

Shalini is by Urgent Request, out of the Falstaff mare Code It Nikki, and was bred by James and Richard Briere. She won the Pro Or Con Handicap Jan. 4 and is coming off a fifth in a Mar. 20 optional claimer. She has three wins and $165,396 in earnings.

Castling is by Pirate's Bounty, out of the Executioner mare Crystal M., and was bred by William Currin. She won the Valkyr Handicap at Hollywood Park last summer and is coming off a second in the Mar. 9 Sacramento Handicap. She has four wins and $160,361 in earnings.

Ace's Valentine is by Moscow Ballet, out of the Silver Hawk mare First Silver Hawk, and was bred by Jude Feld and Cory Wellman. She was disqualified from fourth to fifth in her last start, an Apr. 2 starter allowance, and has one career win.

Ardum Relaunch is by Cee's Tizzy, out of the Al Mamoon mare Mamoon's Slew, and was bred by Bill Mudra. Both of her wins were in claimers and she is coming off a second in a Mar. 29 allowance race.

Bella Volare is by Flying Continental, out of the Saratoga Six mare Lucky Lady Love, and was bred by Gaye Cornell and James Ghidella. She is coming off a Mar. 6 win in a $25,000 claimer, one of three in her 18-race career.

Blind Ambition is by Political Ambition, out of the Relaunch mare Reclass, and was bred by co-owner Harris Farms. She has only four career starts and has never finished worse than second. Her last race was a Mar. 29 allowance win.

Serene in Seattle is by Boulder Dam, out of the Summer Time Guy mare Lil Bit Tough, and was bred by Madera Thoroughbreds. She has four career wins and $164,940 in earnings, is coming off an eighth in a Mar. 21 allowance and is looking for her first stakes win.

Sunset Serenade is by General Meeting, out of the Sharpen Up mare Royal Blue Bell, and was bred by Mr. and Mrs. John Mabee. She is looking for her first win since last October and is coming off an eighth in a Mar. 1 allowance.

Yes We Do is by Sharp Victor, out of the Hyannis Port mare We Say Do, and was bred by Granton Bloodstock. She is coming off a 10th in a Mar. 29 $50,000 claimer and is looking for her first win since 2001.
