INGLEWOOD, Calif. (Apr. 28, 2002) -- Ladylore, the longest shot on the board, ran past favored Super High in midstretch to post an upset win Sunday in the $200,000 Melair Stakes for 3-year-old fillies at Gold Rush III at Hollywood Park. The daughter of Video Ranger, out of the Tri Jet mare Romantic Mare, was bred by Myung Kwon Cho and was claimed for $28,000 in her most recent start, a winning maiden claimer Mar. 16. Trainer Bill Spawr claimed her from her seventh career start, having never run in a maiden special weight. The $120,000 first-place check was nearly six times her previous career earnings of $22,620. In the race, Icantgoforthat, Super High and Bella Bella Bella battled for the early lead. Super High took charge turning for home, but Ladylore came charging through the stretch to win by 1 3/4 lengths. Super High finished second and Calzada Kid was third.
