Sunshine Millions Deadline Dec. 9
ARCADIA, Calif. (Nov. 30, 2002) - Early-bird nominations for the $3.6 million Sunshine Millions close Monday, Dec. 9. The eight-race series will be held Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003, with four races each at Santa Anita and Gulfstream Park.
The early-bird nomination fee is $100. Regular nominations close Saturday, Jan. 11, 2003, and are $500 apiece. There will be no supplemental nominations. Pre-entries will be taken Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2003 and the post-position draw will be Monday, Jan. 20, 2003.
The four races to be held at Santa Anita are: $750,000 Distaff for fillies and mares 4-year-olds and up at 1 1/16 miles; $500,000 Turf for 4-year-olds and up at 1 1/18 miles on turf; $250,000 Sprint for 4-year-olds and up at six furlongs; $250,000 Oaks for 3-year-old fillies at seven
furlongs.
The four races to be held at Gulfstream Park are: $1 million Classic for 4-year-olds and up at 1 1/8 miles; $350,000 Filly and Mare Turf for fillies and mares 4-year-olds and up at 1 1/18 miles on turf; $250,000 Filly and Mare Sprint for fillies and mares 4-year-olds and up at six
furlongs; $250,000 Dash for 3-year-olds.
Races will be drawn with an equal number of California-bred and Florida-bred horses. Any unplaced horse that arrives at the event via aircraft will be reimbursed $10,000.
