$125,000 XTRA 690/FOX 1150 Cal Cup Juvenile Fillies
SUMMER WIND DANCER

ARCADIA, Calif. (Nov. 2, 2002) -- Second choice Summer Wind Dancer closed furiously to catch Buttertart in the final strides and post a half-length win in the $125,000 XTRA 690/FOX 1150 California Cup Juvenile Fillies at Oak Tree at Santa Anita.

The 2-year-old filly by Siberian Summer, out of the Incinderator mare Native Wind Dancer, was bred by R. & Y. Wira, L. Vetter and D. Penny, and foaled at Irish Oaks.
"I'm really tickled to have her. She's been terrific," said winning trainer Jenine Sahadi.

The winner was coming off an impressive win in the seven-furlong Cover Gal Stakes Oct. 3, and now has three wins in four starts and earnings of $164,385. She went off at odds of 3-1 and was timed in 1:44.38

"She ran a great race," said Summer Wind Dancer jockey Alex Solis. "The last part, the other filly opened up on me, but I was hoping she would stop. It's the first time these fillies have gone this far. My filly kept trying and trying and luckily we finally got to the other filly."

Buttertart, at odds of 33-1, finished second despite leading by three lengths at midstretch, and Tizalovelylady was third despite a wide trip.
