CRACKUP

ARCADIA, Calif. (Nov. 2, 2002) -- Crackup turned the tables on Excessive Barb Saturday, winning the $125,000 Budweiser/Foothill Beverage California Cup Juvenile at Oak Tree at Santa Anita.

Crackup is a 2-year-old colt by Distorted Humor, out of the Habitony mare Lightly Go Lightly, was bred by Malibu Valley Farms and Arthur and Mary Alisi and was foaled at Malibu Valley Farms.

In their last race, the Oct. 4 Cavonnier Stakes, Crackup finished third, one length behind winner Excessive Barb, who went favored in the Juvenile. But Crackup took command turning for home and posted a two-length win, the second in four starts for owner Stan Fulton's $50,000 Barretts May purchase.

"When I asked him, he really dug in and kept trying right to the wire," said jockey Tyler Baze. "He's really nice horse and I think he's going to go a long ways."

Favored Excessive Barb was second and Hair Jordan, at 24-1, was third.

Crackup, the 2-1 second choice, was trained by Rafael Bacerra. He ran the 1 1/16 miles in 1:43.82.

"I knew all along this horse could go two turns," said Bacerra. "Every time I worked him, he showed me a good kick at the end. I was waiting for him to run two turns."
