Deep Cast for Juvenile Fillies

ARCADIA, Calif. (Oct. 26, 2002) – With 69 nominations, the $125,000 Juvenile Fillies started as the most popular of the 10 California Cup races.

When it is run Nov. 2, it could turn into a rematch of the Oct. 3 Cover Gal Stakes, as six runners from that race are considered contenders for the Juvenile Fillies race, headed by the Cover Gal winner, Summer Wind Dancer.

Summer Wind Dancer is by Siberian Summer, out of the Incinderator mare Native Wind Dancer, and was bred by R. & Y. Wire, L. Vetter and D. Penny, and foaled at Irish Oaks. The Cover Gal was only her third careerstart.

Buttertart, coming off a maiden win in her third start, finished fourth in the Cover Gal. She is by High Brite, out of the Interco mare Miss Intergreen, was bred by and foaled at Double Bar S Ranch.

Miss Nicolie won the Generous Portion Stakes, then was second in the Cover Gal. She is by Wilter Willy, out of the Chief’s Crown mare Lady Snerd, was bred by Ron Gomez and foaled at Nexstar Ranch.
Zam Zam took the Bustles & Bows Stakes at Fairplex, then was sixth in the Cover Gal. She is by Wild Gold, out of the Kalim mare Mood Elevator, was bred by Peg Goemans and foaled at Curragh Stock Farm.

Servaline hasn’t lived up to her $2 million Keeneland price tag, with one win in five starts and a fifth-place finish in the Cover Gal. She is by Storm Cat, out of the Chief’s Crown mare Fitted Crown, Excellent Meeting’s dam, and was bred by John and Betty Mabee and foaled at Golden Eagle Farm.

Sky’s Snow, second in the Barretts Debutante, was eighth in the Cover Gal. She is from Benchmark’s first crop, out of the Skywalker mare Skyanna, was bred by Bill Thomas and foaled at BMT Ranch.

Stonecoldfox was an impressive maiden special weight winner in her Oct. 13 debut, beating Small Town Girl, who was third in the Cover Gal. Stonecoldfox is by In Excess, out of the Diamond Prospect mare Olde Elegance, was bred by and foaled at Vessels Stallion Farm.

Other contenders include stakes-winning Del Mar Yearling Sales graduate Market Garden; Amber Hills and Iza Beauty, one-two finishers in the Sept. 25 Black Swan Stakes at Fairplex Sept. 25 and Magic Smoke, last seen in August.
