Knight Has Largest Del Mar Consignment

DEL MAR, Calif. (Aug. 7, 2002) - With 24 individuals, agent Mary Knight has the largest consignment for the 2002 Del Mar Yearling Sale, which will be held Sunday and Monday at the Del Mar HorsePark at 7 p.m.

Among the sires represented in her group are a Who's Who of California stallions: Bertrando and In Excess, Cee's Tizzy and Memo, Smokester and newcomer Free House.

Knight has several siblings to well-known California-bred stakes winners (a full brother to Fire Sale Queen, a full brother to Cee Dreams), but she is equally excited about one of her yearlings with a pedigree not as familiar in the West.

"Hip 34 is by Malibu Moon, a sire standing in Maryland, but this is one spectacular athlete," Knight said of the filly, who is out of the stakes-placed Consigliere mare She's a Smoker. "This is a yearling who should run right away. She is mature mentally and physically."

Knight also mentioned hip 102, Card's Hope, a colt by Bertrando, out of the Desert Wine mare Desert Violet, a full brother to the stakes-place Four Cards Too from the family of multiple graded stakes winner Kingdom Found and Quicken Tree Stakes winner Adminniestrator.

"This one should sell itself. I'll be surprised if he isn't one of the best individuals in the entire sale," said Knight. "He's well-made, balanced, a really nice colt."

Hip 118 is another California-bred Knight believes will be popular with bidders.

"This filly is by Smokester, and she's not real big but in the round pen she's athletic like a cat," Knight said of the filly, which is out of the stakes-placed Flying Paster mare Flying Proper. "You can see on the picture on the website that she's so correct. When you see her in the pen you can tell she's going to be a good mover."

Knight also mentioned hip 1, Crown Fever, a colt by Gold Fever and the first foal out of the winning Crowning mare Nellie's Crown.
