Oberwald Tries to Graduate DEL MAR, Calif. (July 29, 2002) -- Stakes winner Oberwald and stablemate Luzern, sons of hot freshman sire Swiss Yodeler, lead a field of nine Wednesday in the $125,000 Graduation Stakes for 2-year-old California-breds at Del Mar. The field also includes Del Mar Yearling Sale graduate One Bad Storm, a 10-length winner in his only start. One Bad Storm is by Siberian Summer, out of the Valid Appeal mare Truly Naughty, was bred by James Gustafson and foaled at Baron of Bavaria Farms. Oberwald and Luzern are out of Cahill Road mares, were bred by Marvin Malmuth and foaled at Pepper Oaks Farm. Oberwald is out of Magic Rhythm, Luzern is out of Dreamy. Oberwald won the Haggin Stakes but was fifth in the Hollywood Juvenile. Expression is by In Excess, out of the Falstaff mare Emerald Express, was bred by Eclipse Investments and foaled at Vessels Stallion Farm. He won a May 8 maiden special weight race in his second start. Slab Granite is by Bold Badgett, out of the Icecapade mare Glitter Ice, was bred by SLU Inc. and foaled at Old English Rancho. He won a June 30 maiden special weight race in his second start. Martinblestme is by Benchmark, out of the Captain Valid mare Miss Validity, was bred by Terry and Dawn Henn and foaled at Vessels Stallion Farm. He won a July 11 maiden claimer in his debut. Jury Box is by In Excess, out of the Smarten mare Right Smart Girl, was bred by Smith Family Trust and foaled at Vessels Stallion Farm. He won a June 30 maiden special weight in his second start. Icecoldbeeratreds is by In Excess, out of the Crafty Prospector mare Guilded Times, was bred by Mike Pegram and foaled at Vessels Stallion Farm. He won an Apr. 27 maiden special weight in his debut. Fabulous World is by Fabulous Champ, out of the Saratoga Six mare Six Worlds, was bred by Dutton & Turner and foaled at Valley View Farm. He finished fourth in the Haggin Stakes June 16.
