Jeweled Pirate is a Survivor

ARCADIA, Calif. (Dec. 31, 2001) - California Cup Distaff winner Jeweled Pirate returns from a two-month break and heads the field for Wednesday's $100,000 Survive Stakes for California-bred fillies and mares at 5 ½ furlongs at Santa Anita.

The lightly raced Jeweled Pirate is a 5-year-old daughter of Pirate's Bounty, out of the Nijinsky's Secret mare Jewel Ball, and was bred by C-Punch Ranch. She has five wins and three seconds in 11 career starts and earnings of $311,210.

John and Betty Mabee bred three of the entries in the Survive. They are Cinderella Story, by Dehere, out of the Cox's Ridge mare Humilty; Song of Summer, by General Meeting, out of the Nervous Energy mare Nervous Pet; and Song of the Moment, by River Special, out of the Secretariat mare Memorable Moment.

Phaenna is a multiple stakes winner by Frankly Perfect, out of the Desert Wine mare Redsand Dancer, and was bred by Dr. Jerry Buss. Filigree is by Candi's Gold, out of the Snow Chief mare Snow Petals, and was bred by Blooming Hills. Aristosa is by Video Ranger, out of the Barachois mare Zonar, and was bred by Myung Kwon Cho. Secret Dream is by Dr. Secreto, out of the Siyah Kalem mare I'm Gunna Do, and was bred by Dr. and Mrs. T.E. Phillips; Vida Dancer is by Moscow Ballet, out of the Slew's Royalty mare Vida Slew, and was bred by Oakcrest Stable.
