Notable Career Retired ARCADIA, Calif. (Dec. 31, 2001) - Notable Career, one of the top California-bred 2-year-olds in 2000, has been retired. The daughter of Avenue of Flags, out of the Smarten mare Excellent Lady, was bred by owners John and Betty Mabee and is a half-sister to multiple Grade I winner General Challenge. Notable Career won the Oak Leaf and Landaluce Stakes and was second in the California Thoroughbred Breeders Association Stakes and Del Mar Debutante, but came out of a fifth-place finish in the Breeders Cup Juvenile with an injury. Sidelined for nearly 10 months, her four-race comeback ended with a last-place finish in the Dec. 16 Corona Handicap. She finished with three wins in 11 starts and earnings of $327,855.
