Del Mar Sale-Topper Leanessa Gets Diploma
ARCADIA, Calif. (Dec. 29, 2001) - Leanessa, a $200,000 sale-topping purchase by Bruce Headley and a partnership at the 1999 Del Mar Yearling Sale, broke her maiden in her second start Saturday at Santa Anita.
Leanessa won the second race, a six-furlong maiden special weight race for fillies and mares. The 3-year-old daughter of Bertrando, out of the Skip Trial mare When, was bred by Dorothy and Donna Kisela and Ed Gregson.
She won by five lengths as the lukewarm favorite and was timed in a quick 1:09.37.
