Cal-Bred Pair in a Gold Rush ALBANY, Calif. (Dec. 13, 2001) - Mayo Simba and Lusty Latin are the two California-bred entries in Saturday's $55,000 Gold Rush Stakes for 2-year-olds at one mile at Golden Gate Fields. Moyo Simba is a son of Walter Willy, out of the Prospective Star mare Star Peak, and was bred by C-Punch Ranch. He broke his maiden Nov. 21 in a mile special weight race at Golden Gate by 6½ lengths. Lusty Latin, a $29,000 purchase at last year's Del Mar Yearling Sale, is a son of El Prado, out of the Afleet mare Scarlet Ann, and was bred by Applebite Farms. He finished second by a nose in a Nov. 29 $62,500 claiming race at Hollywood Park after a fifth in the Cal Cup Juvenile. In addition, Game Well Planned is a Washington-bred son of California stallion Game Plan, out of the Well Decorated mare Decora, and was bred by Valleymeade Farm and Susan Palmer. His only win was a maiden claimer and this will be his first race beyond six furlongs. Copyright © 1998-2001 California Thoroughbred Breeders Association |
