Cal-bred Quartet Tries Albany Stakes

ALBANY, Calif. (Nov. 29, 2001) - Four California-breds, including Cal Cup Starter Sprint champ Rio Oro, are part of a full field of 12 entered in Saturday's $55,000 Albany Stakes, a six-furlong sprint at Golden Gate Fields.

Love That Lion is a son of Last Lion, out of the Slew the Bride mare Loveinthefastlane, and was bred by Roberta Petersen. Claimed three times this year, he won the Sept. 24 Governor's Cup at Fairplex Park, his sixth win in nine starts.

Radar Contact is a son of Flying Continental, out of the Zanthe mare Talk Faster, and was bred by Harris Farms. His Sept. 21 allowance win was the fifth of his career.

Today A Star is a 9-year-old gelded son of Prospective Star, out of the Today 'n Tomorrow mare Proud n'Passionate, and was bred by Norma Rogers. He has earned nearly $250,000, but hasn't won in 2 ½ years.

Rio Oro is a son of Oraibi, out of the Tsunami Slew mare Rio Tejo, and was bred by Rick and Michael Arthur. He has 14 wins in 24 starts, including the recent Cal Cup Starter Sprint, and is 2-for-3 on wet tracks.
