Cal-breds Sell Well in Barretts First Session

ARCADIA, Calif., (Monday May 15th, 2000) The first session of Barretts May Sale of Two-Year-Olds in Training kicked off yesterday with Cal-breds registering impressive prices.

The top selling Cal-bred was a chestnut colt by Devil His Due out of the Raise a Cup mare Madam Q. Mike Abraham signed the $100,000 ticket for this colt consigned by Jaime H. Gomez.

The up and coming young stallion Distinctive Cat made a great showing on Monday with two colts selling for an average of $58,500. Jeffrey Sengara, the owner of famed Cal-bred Budroyale, went to $80,000 for Mysterious Cat. This dark bay or brown son of Distinctive Cat out of Mistical Miss was consigned by Bruno De Berdt.

Ed and Natalie Friendly also went to $80,000 for A Real Knockout. This Cal-bred filly by Two Punch out of the Lypheor (GB) mare Milady Ly was consigned by Jerry Bailey.

Northern California trainer Jerry Hollendorfer purchased Brite Lies for $40,000. The son of High Brite out of the No Robbery mare Fibber was consigned by Mary Knight acting as agent for Billingsly Creek Farm.

Overall the first session was topped with the Thoroughbred Corporation purchasing a Twilight Agenda colt for $280,000. There were 89 horses sold during the first session for an average of $27,898 up from $23,858 last year. The median matched last year's number of $16,000. There were 33 horses that entered the sale's ring and did not sell.
