La Feminn Remains Unbeaten
ARCADIA, Calif., (Sunday April 30, 2000) Eight fillies lined up for the $150,000 B. Thoughtful Stakes midway through the California Gold Rush program, but after seven furlongs only one name was on everyone's mind, La Feminn. The four-year-old California-bred posted a fourth consecutive win to remain unbeaten and in the process stamped herself as a class act.
Bred by Palisair Place, she is by the up and coming sire Memo(Chi) and considering she is in the hands of trainer Richard Mandella, the best may be yet to come. At the wire she was two lengths to the good of Theresa's Tizzy, who was the same distance in front of Gourmet Girl. Keeping in mind that the latter is a grade one winner, Diamond Racing Corporation's color bearer is sure to add to the $90,000 she pocketed today.
For the first time in her career, she allowed herself to be headed in a race but Theresa's Tizzy soon found out in the stretch that even with twelve wins to her name, she was no match for this promising youngster. With a winning time of 1:21 4/5 for the race, La Feminn has shown us that she is more than ready to step up to the plate and face graded stakes company.
Dexter Drive Cruises Home In Quicken Tree
ARCADIA, Calif., (Sunday April 30, 2000) Dexter Drive cruised home to an easy 3 ½ length victory in the $100,000 Quicken Tree Stakes. Under Kent Desormeaux, the five-year-old gelding by Hermes completed the 1 ½ mile marathon in 2:25.
Owner Jerry Pace, who resides in Charlotte, North Carolina, claimed the horse in January of 1999 for $25,000 at Golden Gate Fields.
"It is probably a lot closer for me to race in Kentucky, but Peter Levin is really good at spotting claimers with potential," said Pace. "We have a four-horse stable, all
Cal-breds."
This was the first career stakes victory for Levine whose gelding picked up $60,000 for the vicory.
"We've been pointing him to this race for two or three months," said Levine. "He'd never run a mile and a half, but I wasn't worried so much about the distance as I was about keeping him relaxed."
Dexter Drive, out of the In Tisssar mare Thanks Tissar, was bred in California by
John Lucian.
