No Doubt about This Performance!

ARCADIA, Calif., (Sunday April 30, 2000) CTBA Director John Harris was all smiles after the running of today's Lakeview Thoroughbred Farms Stakes at Hollywood Park's California Gold Rush day. The reasons were threefold, namely Rebuild Trust, Lucky C.H. and Top Of Our Game. All three are fillies bred by Harris Farms Inc. and they completed a virtual sweep by finishing first, second and fourth, respectively, in this $70,000 added event.

Harris also still owns all of them, but did have to share some of the glory in the winners circle with Per Antonsen, who is co-owner of Rebuild Trust. Even more exciting to the winning connections was the fact that the 3/5 favorite's winning margin was a staggering seven lengths, after going to the front from the start and never relinquishing her advantage. In third place was Blonde Bounty, who must have surely felt outnumbered amongst the onslaught of "team" Harris.

Rebuild Trust is a four-year-old daughter of Cee's Tizzy and she posted a time of 1:44 3/5 for the 1 1/6 mile trip. Now the winner of half of her six starts to date, she more than doubled her stakes earnings courtesy of today's win and looks sure to add to her total of $109,700.

As Close as It Can Get

ARCADIA, Calif., (Sunday April 30, 2000) The $150,000 Melair Stakes provided one of the most exciting finishes of the day when the longshot Wired To Fly just held on to win by a nose from a game Cover Gal. The 6 ½ furlong for three-year-old fillies bred in California, carded as the fourth race on California Gold Rush day, boiled down to a final field of nine.

Cover Gal went to the post as the 1/5 favorite but found one too good in the stretch, in the form of Wired To Fly, a chestnut daughter of Flying Victor bred by Lindon Farms. She benefited from an inspired ride from newcomer to the local circuit Joe Bravo, stopping the clock in 1:15 4/5 to take home the winning purse of $90,000.

The official verdict was a nose, while third placed finisher Wingless Flight trailed in nine lengths behind the first two. It looks like Wired To Fly has an affinity for Hollywood Park, evidenced by the fact that she won a stakes race on that track as a two-year-old and now she is unbeaten there in three trips to the gate.
