Thoroughbred Breeders Foundation
FOUNDATION NEWS
Mrs. Harold (Teddy) Cole, a member of the California Thoroughbred Breeders Association
since 1969, recently made a donation of reference books and periodicals to the Foundation
for use in its Carleton F. Burke Memorial Library. Mrs. Cole, who has bred and raced
thoroughbreds, reports that she will add to the donation in the future.
The library, housed in the CTBA building in Arcadia, contains some 10,000 volumes ranging from veterinary medicine to fine arts pertaining to horses. It is open to the public at no charge, offering pleasure reading and research facilities. Sales catalogs and news publications are among the available literature.
One of the major projects undertaken each year by the California Thoroughbred Breeders Foundation is the funding and awarding of two scholarships to students in the equine veterinary medicine program at the University of California at Davis.
Scholarship recipients of recent years have gone on to make the Foundation proud.
Andy Walker is in practice in Fallbrook, Cal. Jami Whiting, the 1996 recipient, is doing an internship with the renowned thoroughbred veterinary firm of Hagyard, Davidson and McGee in Kentucky.
Carter Judy is a resident at UC Davis working on an advanced degree.
Foundation trustee Gregory L. Ferraro, DVM,
director of the Center for Equine Health at UC Davis, reports that they are hopeful of
keeping Judy on the faculty when his studies are completed.
